Using Tags

Introduction to tags on Spruce

Tags help you quickly search and categorize communication on Spruce. Like chart notes, tags give you the ability to label patient or team conversations as you see fit. They can be used to identify patient populations by insurance type, allergies, chronic condition, primary provider, and more.

Tags are also important to other actions you might take in Spruce. For example, tags might indicate which conversations trigger an Automated Workflow; they might help identify which conversations should show up in a particular inbox Filter; and they can be used to sort your conversations to send out a bulk message to the right recipients.

Tags are only visible to you and your colleagues, not patients. Anyone on your team has the ability to add or remove tags.

Add and remove tags on the web

When using Spruce on the web, you can add and remove tags in two ways: from the inbox view, where you see all your conversations, or from within a single conversation.

From the inbox

To add tags:

1
Select the checkbox to the right of each conversation you’d like to tag (you can tag multiple conversations at a time).
2
Select Actions from the top right of the page, then select  Add Tag.
3
Type in the pop-up box to choose from existing tags or create a new one.
4
Select Add to apply the tag(s) to the checked conversations.

To remove tags, repeat these steps, but select Remove Tags from the Actions menu.

From within a conversation

To add tags:

    1
    Open a conversation.
    2
Select the Tag Icon at the top of the page.
    3
Type in the box to select from existing tags or create a new one.
    4
Select  Add Tag to apply the tag(s) to the current conversation.

Select the x to the right side of the any tag to remove it.

To search for conversations with a specific tag on the web, select the tag name from below any conversation in the inbox, and the search bar will autofill with the correct search query.

Alternatively, you can type “tag:XYZ” into the search bar, where XYZ represents the tag you’d like to search.

You can search for conversations with multiple tags by adding a comma (e.g., “tag:Diabetes, tag:NeedsFollowUp” would show all conversations with both tags applied).
