How to "force close" the Spruce app

Apps on your smartphone have a tendency to stay open in the background even when you leave the app. This helps you quickly get back to an app in the exact state that you left it, particularly when you’re frequently switching back and forth between them. 

Sometimes, the Spruce team may ask that you “force close” the Spruce app on your smartphone in the instance that you encounter a bug or a case that leaves your app in a bad state. This article explains how to force close the Spruce app on your iPhone or Android phone.

On iPhones without a physical home button
- Navigate to the home screen
- Swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen to reveal the app switcher
- Swipe right or left until you see the Spruce app
- Swipe up on the app's preview to force close the app

On iPhones with a physical home button
- Navigate to the home screen
- Double-click the Home button to reveal the app switcher
- Swipe right or left until you see the Spruce app
- Swipe up on the app's preview to force close the app

On Android phones running Android 9 or above
- Open the Settings app
- Select the Apps or Apps & Notifications option
- You may need to select See all apps to view all opened applications
- Tap the Spruce application
- Choose the Force Stop option
- Confirm your decision by selecting OK
